Bitter Melon - Benefits, Medicinal Properties

Bitter gourd or better known as karela may be used as a common veggie in almost all kitchen and over the years we have found out various dishes made with bitter melon that are unlike its name very tasty ,yet till date it is highly used to cure diseases such as diabetes and HIV.. Grown extensively across the world, this small cucumber looking gourd, but with unusual appearance of bumps over it, has a bitter taste. It is not only t eh fruit which has been used widely in last many years, in fact the leaves, flower and even stem of karela find wide variety of usage either in medicines or for manufacturing of beer etc.



Over many years people has used karela in various sickness to help body regain its functionality ,but now with the advancement of technology ,many more studies are being brought to limelight . For example it has been associated with the cure of leukemia, several infections and psoriasis. Though the scientific evidences proving these studies are yet not so popular but one can not separate karela from the diet of a diabetic patient.



Bitter gourd has the properties to instantly lower the blood sugar level, thereby controlling diabetes. And yes this action of karela has been proved many times both on humans as well as animals. Bitter melons have certain constituents which regulates the sugar level in the blood. Exactly which constituent is responsible for the action, it is yet unknown.



Hence whether you are a diabetic patient or not remember to include at least a small portion of karela in your diet, in any form you like whether juice, powder, just boiled or even a delicious but obviously less spicy dish.
